MileSplit National Team Power Rankings: Weekend Wrap-Up

Three Nike Team Nationals Regionals took place this past weekend and the results did not disappoint.  New York, the Northeast and the Southeast all qualified their teams to the national meet in Portland next weekend.  See how the top ten fared.

Boys

1. Neuqua Valley (IL) - Idle.  However, many of their top runners ran at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional.  Senior leader Chris Derrick placed second in the boys seeded race to earn a spot at Foot Locker Nationals.  Neuqua's second and third runners Jim Riddle and Danny Pawola placed in the top 35.

2. North Central (WA) - Idle.  Next up Nike Team Nationals.

3. Danbury (CT) - Finished in second to U.S. #7 Brookline (MA) by one point at the NTN Northeast Regional.  Led by senior Willie Ahearn and Matt Terry, who finished 4-5 respectively, Danbury lost to Brookline 86-87 in a nail biter.  Danbury's 47 second 1-5 split is something that comes in handy in big meets like next weekend's national competition.

4. Albuquerque Academy (NM) - Idle.  Next up Nike Team Nationals.

5. Los Alamos (NM) - Idle.  Next up Nike Team Nationals.

6. North Penn (PA) - Entering the meet as one of the pre-race favorites, North Penn finished in fourth place and missed a chance to race at Nike Team Nationals.  The squad finished with 106 points, ten points out of third and 19 points out of second.  They were led by Brad Miles, who finished seventh overall.

7. Brookline (MA) - Won the NTN Northeast Regional by one point over U.S. #3 Danbury (CT) Saturday in New York.  The 86-87 win marked a huge step forward for this team heading into nationals next weekend.  The team's fifth runner was a ways back, but they placed three in the top ten.  Senior Robert Gibson won the individual title in 16:00.

8. The Woodlands (TX) - Idle. Next up Nike Team Nationals.

9. Central Catholic (OR) - Idle.  Next up Nike Team Nationals.

10. York (IL) - Idle.  However, it was learned by MileSplit that their top runner, Tom Achtein, has been nursing an injury.  He will compete at Nike Team Nationals, but how does this affect York?

 

Girls

1. Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) - Running as the Stotan XC Club, Fayetteville-Manlius easily won the New York Regional with 40 points.  The young squad bested runner-up Burnt-Hills by 32 points, using three runners in the top six to propel them to a victory.  The team looks incredibly strong heading into nationals next week.

2. Saugus (CA) - Each week Saugus continues to improve.  This time they easily won their state meet race using a 41 second 1-5 split.  The team won scoring 56 points and beating runner-up Esperanza by 72 points.  Senior Katie Dunn and freshman Kaylin Mahoney placed fifth and sixth respectively to lead the team.

3. Mountain Brook (AL) - Placed third at the NTN Southeast Regional, missing out on an automatic qualifying berth to NTN.  However, the team received an at-large bid Sunday.  Their 88 points put them a mere nine points behind runner-up Tatnall.  MB followed the lead of race winner Madeline Morgan and freshman sensation Marie Demedicis.

4. Dowling Catholic (IA) - Idle.  However, their top two runners competed in the Foot Locker Midwest Regional Saturday.  Top runner Katie Flood (So.) finished second overall to earn a Foot Locker Nationals spot.  Her teammate Ashlie Decker (So.) finished in the top twenty as well.

5. Saratoga Springs (NY) - Hannah Davidson again led her team with a high place.  Her second place finish helped Saratoga capture third place at the NTN Northeast Regional, finishing behind U.S. #1 Fayetteville-Manlius and U.S. #6 Burnt-Hills.  Their 83 points total put them only eleven points behind Burnt-Hills.  While they did not earn an automatic berth, they did receive an at-large berth on Sunday.

6. Burnt-Hills (NY) - Burnt-Hills came into Saturday's NTN Northeast Regional riding a wave of positive outcomes the past few weeks.  Since losing to U.S. #5 Saratoga Springs twice during the middle of the season, Burnt-Hills continues to improve.  This time they finished second behind U.S. #1 Fayetteville-Manlius 40-72, but beat Saratoga 72-83.  Sam Roecker led the way for the team with an impressive eleven second win in 18:18.

7. Jesuit (OR) - Idle.  Next up Nike Team Nationals.

8. Westfield (IN) - Idle.  Next up Nike Team Nationals.

9. St. Mary's (OR) - Idle.  Next up Nike Team Nationals.

10. Dakota Ridge (CO) - Idle.  Did not receive an at-large berth Sunday.  They will not be competing at Nike Team Nationals next weekend.
