12/1 AAU National Championships

PA RESULTS POSTED

Bishop McDevitt's Joe Beveridge, took 2nd in the Intermediate Boys at the AAU National Championships in Virginia, going 16:00.71.

Race Description by Jack Harbaugh: Joe Beveridge ran a great race.  He was third at the mile to Ben Miller.  They crossed in about 4:48-4:49.  At two miles, Joe was going one-on-one with Ben Miller.  At three miles, a third runner joined Joe and Ben at the front.  The race finished in a soccer stadium.  Only one side had bleachers.  The opposite side had a wind break that served as the only measurable hill on the course.  The runners ran a lap inside the stadium fence and finished at mid field.  Ben Miller surged hard going into the stadium.  Joe and a third runner followed.  Milller hammered the hill and dropped the other two.  Joe Beveridge dropped to third, but the other runner kicked too early and Joe took him coming off the hill and into the finish stretch.  About 25 boys went under 17:00.

Preview: There are three indoor high school meets on tap for the weekend, all at Lehigh University. The Delaware Valley girls kick it off Friday night, with the Division I and II boys from the Track & Field Coaches Association going Saturday. I'll be covering Foot Locker Nationals with our SIX finalists, in San Diego next weekend, but will provide coverage and rankings on all indoor meets. My first on site coverage will be later in December (sorry, need a little break).
