Armand Duplantis Finishes 9th In World Pole Vault Finals

Armand Duplantis, a rising senior at Lafayette High School in Louisiana, competed in the IAAF World Championships in London this weekend. Duplantis qualified for the finals vaulting 18 feet, 8.41 inches.

In the finals, he cleared 18-0.54 to finish ninth.

Sam Kendricks took home the win for team USA vaulting 19-6.25 inches.

This is the first time Duplantis has competed in the IAAF World Championships, but it's not Duplantis' first time competing on the world stage. He's been a big contributor for the past several years, placing seventh this year at the 42nd Athletissimathird in the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships, and in 2015 winning the 9th IAAF World Youth Championships
