Oregon Relays Hayward Field Eugene Oregon April 24-25, 2009

Over 6,000 people braved sunny but chilly and windy conditions to watch the first day of high school, college and open competition at the Oregon Relays at Eugene's Hayward Field. Highlights of Day One:

Jesuit High School's Annmarie Maag won the girl's 3K in 9:55.37.

Olympian Andrew Wheating (left) won his season debut 1,500 in 3:40.92, just off the meet record of 3:40.76 set by Dub Myers in 1986.

Luke Puskedra's second place in the men's 10k moved him to #6 on the all-time Oregon list. His 28:34.17  PR bested the NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 28:45.00. Oregon senior Galen Rupp won the race in 28:28.68.

Colorado's Jennifer Barringer (left) set a PR, a meet record, and a Colorado school record in winning the women's 1,500 in 4:08.38. The mark is also a world-leading time.

Elliott Jantzer of Phoenix high school won the boys' 3k in a personal best 8:33.45.

Ryan Crouser of Barlow High School set an Oregon boys' sophomore class record to win the shot put in 65-10 1/4.

Shadrack Biwott claimed the #8 spot on the all-time Oregon 5k list in winning the Billy McChesney 5k in 13:36.25. Matthew Centrowitz placed third in a personal best 13:49.15.
