SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Portland women’s soccer player Danielle Foxhoven and cross country runner Alfred Kipchumba have been the West Coast Conference’s Players of the Month for their respective sports. Foxhoven had two games of four goals during October, while Kipchumba helped the Pilots win their 31st straight WCC Championship.
Foxhoven, a sophomore forward, scored 15 goals and added five assists to lead the No. 2 ranked Pilots to a perfect 7-0-0 record during the month. She was named the WCC Player of the Week in three of the four weeks and was the Soccer America National Player of the Week on Oct. 13 and Oct. 27. Foxhoven also became the only player in UP history with two four-goal games in the same season, recording four goals and an assist against both Gonzaga on Oct. 10 and San Francisco on Oct. 25. She also had a hat trick against Montana on Oct. 2. The Littleton, Colo., native leads the nation in goals and points this season.
Kipchumba, also a sophomore, posted three quality finishes at elite events during the month, including winning the 2009 WCC Championship in a course-record time of 24:20. The native of Iten, Kenya, also placed eighth individually at the NCAA Pre-Nationals White Race on Oct. 17, crossing the 8K line in a time of 23:53 and helping the Pilots to a fourth-place finish. He started the month by placing sixth at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, despite falling late in the race. Portland is currently ranked No. 7 nationally.
