Nike Elite Interviews: Sanya Richards-Ross

Nike Elite Interviews

The first Nike Track Nationals will take place on July 2nd, 2010 in Eugene, Oregon.  The day before the Prefontaine Classic the top-12 boys and top-12 girls high school track and field programs will compete in 10 events to determine the first ever national championship for a high school team.

In honor of this event, MileSplit.us will be bringing you a series of athlete inteviews and stories in the months leading up to the meet.  First up is 400 meter World Champion Sanya Richards-Ross.  We briefly caught up with Sanya between physio treatments for a quad she tweaked at the St. Joe's USATF practice track in preparation for her Penn Relays races.  Sanya wasn't able to run in the USA vs. the World 4x100 or 4x400. We wish her the best on a speedy recovery.  (Photo by Victah Sailor, PhotoRun.net)

Sanya won the 400m dash at the 2009 World Championships with a time of 49.0.  Sanya also holds the American record in the event of 48.70.  She is the youngest woman to ever go under the 49s mark.  She has also gone under 50s more than any other woman in history with a current count of 41 sub-50s efforts!  As a senior in high school Sanya made up her mind that she wanted to be the best.  She worked extremely hard and wound up with the high school national record in the 400, a time that still stands, 50.69.  The rest, as they say, is history – in the making.  Enjoy...
