Oregon track & field rundown: Ducks look to extend their winning streaks when the Pac-12 Championships begin today

Oregon runners from left to right, Annie Leblanc, Anne Kesselring and Laura Roesler all figure to score in the 800 meters at the Pac-12 Championships.

LOS ANGELES -- There is a light overcast here today, but it should burn off by the time the Pac-12 Championships get rolling in earnest at Loker Stadium on the USC campus.

On paper it appears that Oregon should continue to dominate both the men's and women's competition. The Ducks have won the last six men's conference titles. The UO women's winning streak is at four.

I think the men's team would have to come completely apart not to extend the streak to seven. The UO women are favored too, although Arizona is good enough to be a problem if the Ducks stumble.

A quick housekeeping item: I wrote in a blog post earlier this week that Oregon's Becca Friday was doubling in the 800 and 1,500 meters. She is running only the 1,500.

The Ducks still are positioned to score well in the 800, with defending Pac-12 champion Laura Reisler, former NCAA champ Anne Kesselring and freshman Annie Leblanc entered in the event.

In fact, on my chart the UO women are overwhelming on the track. I have them scoring in double figures in the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,500. It might be too much for Arizona to make up, although the Wildcats can strike hard in the throws. I have them pulling 42 points out of the shot and discus alone.

with the men's meet.

Things begin today at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer, although that is being contested at Cal State Los Angeles.

The first event today at USC is the women's long jump at 11 a.m. The action starts on the track at 1 p.m.

The Pac-12 Networks is showing this on a delayed basis on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Pac-12 is not allowing live streaming, which makes you wonder about the conference commitment to Olympic sports.

I'll do my best to keep up with the action on Twitter (@kengoe) and with live blog posts on OregonLive.com.
