Nike Oregon Project coach Alberto Salazar said there is no reason for concern about the health of Matthew Centrowitz.

Centrowitz dropped out of the 1,500 meters Saturday at the AREVA Diamond League meet in Paris.

In their report on the race -- it's linked below -- the experts at LetsRun.com wrote that Centrowitz appeared to be favoring a hamstring and limped through the mixed zone without stopping to talk.

"It's the first race he ever has dropped out of in his life," Salazar said. "He is embarrassed, but he is completely OK."

Salazar said Centrowitz had a poor reaction to jet lag and had been exhausted for the four days leading up to the race.

Salazar said it's possible that the former University of Oregon star could have picked up some sort of illness, but that he is an excellent shape and has no muscle or joint problems.

"He has no injuries," Salazar said. "He's just embarrassed. It will make him run harder in Monaco."

The Diamond League meet in Monaco, Herculis Monaco, is July 19.

Switching gears, Salazar said Jordan Hasay has been killing it in practice. He said the 2013 UO graduate has responded well to the concentrated training since joining the Oregon Project last month.

He said she recently completed a a demanding workout -- he  declined to reveal the specifics of the workout -- faster and in better shape than Olympians Kara Goucher and Amy Yoder Begley ever did. Goucher and Begley are former members of the Oregon Project.

Jordan Hasay

Hasay and teammate Tara Erdmann are expected to attempt to reach a World Championships qualifying standard on July 15 at Roosevelt High School in the Roughrider Twilight meet.

However, the date could change if conditions aren't right. The Portland Track Festival, which is staging the meet, has booked July 19 as a fallback date.
