Powell, Carlucci Inducted in MSTCA Hall Of Fame !

You could not ask for a better setting for Andy Powell and his wife Maurica to be inducted into the MSTCA Hall of Fame. Yesterday at Franklin Park between the Women's and Men's race at the Boston College / Coast to Coast Battle Invitational, the Powell's were  inducted in front of friends, family, and fans at the historic park. The husbsand and wife tandem are both Oregon Coaches, and have settled on the west coast after attending Standford University.

"The MSTCA Athlete Hall of Fame has been trying for a few years now to induct both Andy and Maurica into the Athletes Hall of Fame. Living on the west coast has proved difficult for these two Massachusetts natives to come east in January to accept their awards. This being the case, for this reason, the Powell's will be inducted and presented with their induction into the MSTCA Athlete Hall of Fame between the women's and men's races on Friday afternoon." Said Bob L'Homme from the MSTCA

It is quite fitting that Powell is being inducted on Franklin Park, as he holds the Massachusetts fastest time of 14:52. The former of Oliver Ames / Standford standout holds the State record in the 1 Mile at 4:02.7.  He was also involved in probably the greatest Massachusetts race of all time, as he ran 8:50.2 for the 2 Mile run.  He was nipped at the finish line by Franklyn Sanchez in 1998 Indoor All State Meet.

Maurica Carlucci was a standout at Franklin High School where she was an 8 time State Champion in the middle distance events / Relays. She combined with teammate Jen Vendetti to make an incredible middle distance duo. They both were involved in relays teams that ran 3:54 and 9:21.

As great as they were at Standford and in High School, the Powell's are more popular than ever as the lead one of the most recognized and famous distances programs of all time.
