A Look Back at Cain/Rupp Record Evening

Mass MileSplit had the opportunity to be on hand last Thursday for the BU Multi-Meet where Mary Cain and Galen Rupp set records in the 1000m and 5000m respectively.    Several photos from the night were posted live in the photo stream, but we found a few more once the night was over to share. The highlights are posted in the milesplit gallery.

This was Mary Cain's first real outing as a professional after an earlier "workout" at the Armory.

Mary and her coach Alberto Salazar discussed race strategy before the 1000m:

And perhaps also discussed the 800/400m interval workout planned for later in the night. (catch the workout video on Flotrack)

Mary set a new World Junior Record in the 1000m.  See the race video on FLOTRACK

Mary was sporting Boston Strong colors in support of Boston.

Next up was Galen Rupp in pursuit of the 5000m American Record along with Cam Levins in pursuit of the Canadian record.  See the race video on Flotrack.

High school prankster Mary Cain, fresh off her record run, managed to "photo-bomb" Rupp on the home stretch.

The finish line clock locked on Rupp's record time as he crossed the line.

Rupp circled the track on a victory lap to chants of "USA USA"..

Legendary coach Bill Squires was on hand and chatted with Alberto and Mary.

After the crowd filtered out, the Oregon Project team went to work on an epic workout (see video on Flotrack).

Cain concluded her workout with a smooth 57.5 400m:
