MileSplit National Team Power Rankings (Oct. 24)

Very little movement took place in this week's MileSplit National Team Power Rankings.  With most teams either not competing, or going against lesser competition, few squads moved very far from where they were ranked in the prior set of rankings.

Boys

 

1. Albuquerque Academy (NM) - Easily won the Rio Rancho Jamboree, but looking ahead to their clash with in-state rival US #9 Los Alamos. 

 

2. Neuqua Valley (IL) - Scored only 19 points at the Minooka Regional, sweeping the top three spots, and placing all top seven runners in the top eleven spots.  More good news for this team...#2 man Jim Riddle got the doctor's ok to start running again after being out a few weeks with a stress fracture.  The strong get stronger.

 

3. Danbury (CT) - Won their conference meet scoring 29 points, beating runner-up Darien by 54 points.  Matt Terry and Willie Ahearn continue to lead their squad.

 

4. North Central (WA) - Idle.  Regionals ahead.

 

5. Wheat Ridge (CO) - Won regionals in dominating fashion, scoring a mere 22 points.  Placed top five in the top eleven, with a 56 second split.

 

6. Crater (OR) - Idle. Did not compete the majority of their varsity squad.

 

7. Brookline (MA) - Won the Brown Invitational against some very good New York teams.  Beat Smithtown (NY) 46-74, placing four in the top twelve.

 

8. North Penn (PA) - Easily won their conference meet, placing 7 in the top 8.

 

9. Los Alamos (NM) - Idle.  Prepared for their clash with US #1 Albuquerque Academy at their home invitational this coming weekend.

 

10. Wheaton North (IL) - Won a tight regional race over a strong IL-ranked Geneva squad 40-47.  However, WN sat out one of their top five runners, who should return to action this week.

 

 

Girls

 

1. Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) - Idle.  No major weekend competition.

 

2. Saugus (CA) - With heavy expectations and pressure on them at the Mt. SAC Invitational Saturday, Saugus stepped up big, winning the girls Super Sweepstakes race, and running an amazing team time.  Saugus scored 62 points against the stacked field, which included then US #5 Carondelet (CA).

 

3. Eldorado (NM) - Won the Rio Rancho Jamboree over regional power Albuquerque Academy 34-59.  Rachel Velarde again led the way for her team, helping their other top two runners produce a 1-3 sweep.

 

4. Mountain Brook (AL) - Going 1-2 and 7-9, Mountain Brook continued their domination of Alabama, easily winning the Husky Challenge 27-51 over Hoover.

 

5. Saratoga Springs (NY) - Saratoga Springs continued to show why they are a powerhouse every year, despite having a less-experienced squad.  SS beat Burnt-Hills in a dual meet that went down to the last half mile.  SS came out on top 25-30, with some excellent front running, placing 1, 4, 5, 6 among their top four.

 

6. Westfield (IN) - With a potent top three, Westfield won the Franklin Central semi-state in grand fashion, showing their depth an talent.  The state meet is next.

 

7. Burnt-Hills (NY) - Bouncing back against an ever improving Saratoga Springs squad, B-H nearly pulled the upset, losing 25-30 in their annual dual meet.

 

8. Fort Collins (CO) - Placing 1-4 and 7 for thier top five, FC showed their strength in windy conditions at their regionals.  With a 17-71 win under their belts, the team heads to the state championship with a lot of momentum.

 

9. Yankton (ND) - Won yet another state championship.  This time they beat perennial challenger Sioux Falls Roosevelt 58-75, with their top two individuals placing third and fith respectively.

 

10. Jesuit (OR) - The young and talented squad continues to shine, running well as a pack, and making their first enterance into the MileSplit National Team Power Rankings.
