MileSplit National Team Power Rankings - Weekend Wrap-Up

Boys

1. Albuquerque Academy (NM) - The national match-up of the weekend took place at the Los Alamos Invitational in New Mexico.  Albuquerque Academy went head-to-head against US #9 Los Alamos.  The race proved to be everything folks were expecting, as the Academy beat Los Alamos in a tight battle, 38-45.  Ben Johnson led his AA squad, winning the race in 15:30.

2. Neuqua Valley (IL) - Neuqua Valley easily won the Normal Sectional, beating runner-up Lincoln-Way East 32-95.  NV placed their top five in 1, 3, 6, 10 and 12 overall.  Next week is their state championship, where #2 man Jim Riddle returns from a stress fracture.

3. Danbury (CT) - Won the Class "LL" Championships in grand fashion.  Scoring a mere 29 points, Danbury placed their top seven in the top 13 team spots, running as a tight pack most of the way.  Their nine second split 1-5 crushed runner-up Glastonbury by 59 points.

4. North Central (WA) - North Central won the Eastern 3A Regional scoring a mere 23 points.  Placing 1, 4-8, 11, North Central showed they are the top team in Washington.  Andrew Kimpell led the way winning the individual title, as the team spotted a 27 second split.

5. Wheat Ridge (CO) - Won their state meet 100-132 over a tough Arapahoe squad.  Wheat Ridge used a nice 1:07 split, placing their top two runners in third and sixth respectively.

6. Crater (OR) - Junior Zach Elliott led the charge for Crater at their District meet, as the team topped OR #3 Klamath Union and OR #4 Ashland rather easily.  Crater used five in the top nine to trounce second place Ashland 26-41.

7. Brookline (MA) - Easily won the BSC Championships during the weekend.  Using a strong pack, Brookline again marched to victory.

8. North Penn (PA) - Won their district championships with 92 points, easily advancing to the state championships next weekend.

9. Los Alamos (NM) - Over the past few weeks it seemed as though Los Alamos had inched their way towards being able to hang with US #1 Albuquerque Academy.  However, as the two squared off this past weekend, Los Alamos was reminded that they still have work to do.  LA lost to AA at the Los Alamos Invitational 38-45.

10. Wheaton North (IL) - Took a very disappointing fifth place at the Schaumburg Sectional Saturday.  Despite a 42 second split, North's 2-3 runners were too far back from the other 2-3 runners in the race.  However, they get a chance to redeem themselves next weekend at the Illinois State Cross Country Championships.

8. Fort Collins (CO) - Many suspected Fort Collins would lose to Dakota Ridge in the 5A Colorado State Championships Saturday, however, FC thought they had a chance.  However, Dakota Ridge proved to be even stronger than most suspected, as Fort Collins lost 28-87.  Lisa Reyna led Fort Collins in third place.
