The Prefontaine Classic set an attendance record of 14,221. Records include the American record in the men's pole vault (Brad Walker, 19-9 3/4), US all-comers records in the men's 10K and women's 5K and meet records in the mens' 200, 800, 400 and womens' hammer, 1500 and 100. In addition to outstanding high school performances in Channelle Price and Luke Puskedra, Maria Mutola grabbed her 16th straight victory in the women's 800 in her final appearance at Hayward Field.
