Beaver Runners Battle to Tie with Oregon; Defeat Portland State

Eugene, Ore. – Sophomore Casey Masterson (Eugene, Ore.) led all Oregon State runners with a third place finish to boost the Beavers to a tie with top-ranked Oregon and win over Portland State on Thursday evening at the Oregon Open.

 

The Ducks and the Beavers both posted 28 team points with Oregon taking the top two spots, while Oregon State easily slid past the Vikings 15-50 on the 4,850-meter course.

 

Masterson finished the course in a time of 17:08.29, with junior Hayley Oveson (La Grande, Ore.) and senior Sylvia Veal (Aloha, Ore) following right after in times of 17:24.62 and 17:33.88, respectively.

 

In her first race for Oregon State, graduate transfer Michelle Childs raced to a seventh place finish (17:49.33), followed by sophomore Marsha Lampi (Portland, Ore.) in 11th (18:09.90) and sophomore Abby Chismet (Astoria, Ore.) in 12th (18:25.90) for the top six spots.

 

Oregon State runners are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 8:30 a.m., as the team heads to the University of Washington for the Sundodger Invitational
