Oregon High School Track Coach Stops Gunman

Keanon Lowe was a hero on Friday, stopping an armed student inside Parkrose High School in Portland, Oregon, after the suspect revealed a shotgun under a trench coach, according to report from The Oregonian.

Lowe, a former football player at the University of Oregon and a graduate of Portland Jesuit High School, is the current football and track and field coach at Parkrose and a security guard.

"I think he deserves a lot of credit for his bravery," Elijah Reginald, 18, told The Oregonian. "If it wasn't for him, someone could have gotten hurt or potentially lost their life."

According to the report, police said "At some point, a staff member at the high school confronted him. A Portland Police School Resource Officer and other officers arrived and immediately entered the school and found the staff member detaining the subject in the hallway."

The Parkrose School District contains six schools and roughly "3,400 students," per The Oregonian

Afterward, comments flooded through Twitter, as many thanked Lowe for his heroic effort.
