An otherwise ideal day for running on Saturday at Morley Field in San Diego's Balboa Park, was much less than ideal for members of the West Region team where the grind of a long season hit hard a day too early.

The boys 10-member West Region team placed fourth among the four regions, 20 points behind the third-place South Region. Ahmed Ibrahim, a senior from Portland, and Thomas Boyden, a senior from Salt Lake City, placed 11th and 12th respectively, to lead the West team.  Of the two Californians, Colin Peattie placed 22nd with his junior classmate at San Jose Bellarmine College Prep, Nolan Topper, in 30th.

The girls struggled to match the 5:09 first-mile pace set by the leaders and accumulated 120 points, 57 points behind the third-place South Region. Anna Martin, a senior from Lehi, Utah in her second trip to FLN, placed 25th in the 40-runner field as the top runner from the West.

Local favorite Skyler Wallace, a senior at Carlsbad Sage Creek, was 26th. Other California girls included Mira Costa sophomore Dalia Frias (32nd), Granada Hills sophomore Sofia Abrego (33rd), Capistrano Valley senior Carly Corsinita (34th), Sacramento St. Francis sophomore Cate Joaquin (38th) and Sun Valley Village Christian junior Mia Barnett (39th).
