Texas Regional Champs Retro: Matthew Boling's Big Moment

9.98

Retrospective: Houston Strake Jesuit's Matthew Boling ran 9.98 seconds (+4.2) on a non-legal wind at the UIL Region 3-6A Championships, booking his ticket to the UIL State Track and Field Championships. Roughly two weeks later, he won four state titles in the 100m, long jump, 4x100 and 4x400, helping the Fighting Crusaders to a second-place finish in the 6A standings. Later, in July, Boling went on to capture gold at the Pan American U20 Championships in Costa Rica, hitting a wind-legal 10.11 on the clock -- his fastest recorded 100m of the 2019 season. Boling also secured seven marks over 25 feet in the long jump, including a personal record 26-3.5 at the Texas Relays. In his first indoor season for the University of Georgia, he finished second at the SEC Conference Championships in the 200m -- behind NCAA leader Terrance Laird of LSU -- with a time of 20.66, fourth-best in the NCAA, and competed in the 60m for the first time in his career, logging a best of 6.68 seconds.
