Salute To Seniors: Cole Noriega (Davis)

Name: Cole Noriega

School: Davis

What was your most memorable race/throw/jump/vault/moment?
My most memorable race was sophomore year when a teammate dropped out of a the 300m hurdles, so I could place 4th and state qualify. At state,  He took first and I was able to take 6th.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
My biggest competition would be Payton Suitter of Bingham. We've become great friends from you competing and training with each other. I was always trying to catch up to him.

What was your greatest accomplishment?
My Greatest Accomplishment was being lucky enough to win the MVP award last season. I felt so honored and so grateful.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I wouldn't change a thing!!!! Hurdles and Relays are by far the best events! And I was lucky enough to do it all.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The hardest obstacles to overcome was the headwinds, but more importantly, the butterflies.  They've never come worse than at a track meet. When I fall asleep after a meet, I'm just as tired of the butterflies as I am from running.

What will you miss the most?
I'll miss the team the most. We have a hurdle mafia that I'm very proud to be a part of. I love all of them and being away from all of them is the hardest part about being done.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?
My advice to younger athletes is, treat every race like it's your last!! You really don't know when it's all over.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
My coach is everything!! Coach West always had faith and always took the time to help me improve. She always had something to correct, but knew how to get me excited to correct it. I wouldn't have had the success I had without her.

What are your college plans?
As for college, I don't know yet. I plan on serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I'll go from there. Who wants me? I'd like to run when I get back!!!

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
I want to say thanks again to Coach West, I kept with hurdles because of you!! Coach Hyde, thank you for the faith you had in me. Coach Agnello, thank you for all the motivational messages and speeches! There's so much more about these guys that I love and would like to thank them for, but this would be wayyy to long.
