Nathan Green's Insane Rally Highlights Outdoor Nats

Rallying wasn't anything new to Borah High School (ID) graduate Nathan Green

But on Saturday at Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon, the University of Washington signee took things to another level.

On the final day of action at new Hayward Field, Green erased an insane 5-second hole with 400 meters to go -- not to mention a brilliant last lap from Niwot's Zane Bergen -- to take his second major championship in back-to-back days, earning the boys mile championship in a winning time of 4:03.30.

On Friday, Green won Brooks PR in 4:01.76 -- which included an amazing final 56 second last lap.

The ensuing hours saw him travel over four hours to Eugene, where he would finish off his career much like the rounds of an NCAA Championship -- two miles in two days.

It hardly mattered.

Green had enough in the tank for an insane last lap that saw his second 55-56 second close in back-to-back days.

Bergen was second in 4:03.90 as the Niwot junior closed in 58 seconds. Conard's (CT) Gavin Sherry, who led through 1,209 in 3:02.45, was third in 4:07.20.

Recaps:

  • The boys championships 800m was wild, to say the least. The winner from the fastest section didn't even win. Instead, the top three finishers from Section 4 went 1-2-3. • Addy Wiley continued to prove why she was the best miler of 2021. The Huntington North junior -- who already owned a U.S. No. 1 time in the mile from the RunningLane Track Championships in June -- won a battle over Sophia Gorriaran, finishing in 4:42.78.
