SoBoCo's Burns voted Class 3 best senior boys runner

Connor Burns is used to big winning margins and the fan vote for the top senior runner among Class 3 boys was no different.

The future Oregon Duck and current Southern Boone County standout won the vote with 63% of the vote - the largest margin in polls ran so far from Class 5, 4 and 3.

The next three runners were separated by only one percent each: Cassville's Caleb Leach, Herculaneum's Keith Vance and St. Michael the Archangel's Sam Rosenberg. Quentin Hermann of Father Tolton Catholic placed fifth.

Burns ran the 5K course at Gans Creek in 15:01.2 and had a winning margin of 1:01.2 - the largest Class 3 margin dating back to 2000 - the latest year MSHSAA has online records.

It is the largest margin of win in Class 3 since 2009.

He won seven meets this year and didn't lose a race until the Midwest Nationals - a week after winning the Class 3 title.

Burns' last loss in-season to a Missouri was in 2020, coming in second behind El Dorado Springs' Daelen Ackley in the Class 3 championship.
