PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Portland men’s and women’s track and field teams posted several personal bests last weekend, with some Pilots competing at the Lewis & Clark Invitational across town and others at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
Across town at the Lewis & Clark Invite, freshman Kiyah Williams continued her winning ways winning the 400-meter hurdles in a personal record time of 1:03.06.
Senior Tiffany Spaulding made UP’s all-time top-10 list in the 400-meters with a time of 1:09.09.
Sophomore Sarah Auer posted an 11-second personal record in the 5,000-meter event.
At the Mt. Sac Relays, redshirt junior Cori Moore won her section of 1,500-meters with a time of 4:28.32. Moore also placed second in the 800-meters with a new UP program record of 2:07.17.
Senior Dana Morgan and sophomore Lyndy Davis both made the UP all-time top-10 list in the 10,000-meter run. Morgan crossed the line in 35:48.89 and Davis followed with a time of 36:01.66.
Sophomore Marit Tegelaar enjoyed a 12-seond personal record finishing the 5,000-meter run in a time of 17:08.42. Teammate freshman Kellie Houser posted a 27-second PR in the same event with a time of 17:15.00.
“Overall it was an excellent weekend for us,” said women’s head coach Ian Solof. “Cori really impressed me with her double, while Marit and Kellie both ran tough races to get 5,000-meter PRs. Kiyah and Tiffany continue to do a great job in leading our sprint/hurdle crew.”
On the men’s side at the Mt. Sac Relays, five Pilots competed in the men’s 10,000-meter run led by sophomore Alfred Kipchumba who crossed the line in fourth-place overall with a time of 28:55.73. Senior Tommy Betterbed finished with a time of 29:54.90. Freshman Charlie McDonald clocked a time of 31:34.14 and redshirt sophomore Shane Geiger finished in 31:52.07. Junior Scott Olberding came in with a time of 32:31.86.
Redshirt freshman Jared Bassett represented UP in the 3,000-meter steeplechase finishing with a time of 9:08.54.
Freshman Cody Wells won his section of the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:54.49.
Up next, the Pilots compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 21-24.
