Chapa, Anderson Sensational in Seattle

For many spending a Valentine's Day weekend in Seattle is a romantic one. For many Oregon track athletes this year it meant searching for rewards in the way of fast early season times, not romance. Fans of Sleepless in Seattle may not agree but those Oregon track fans on hand were rewarded with much early season excitement.

Central Catholic's Annaliese Chapa used the benefit of a fast collegiate and open mile on Saturday to run 4:54.58, 6th fastest in the country this winter.

Sunday saw Benson junior Nate Anderson blister the 309 meter Mondo surface in 48.92. Fellow Techster Sara Callier leaped 5.44 meters in the long jump.

Harry Miller of Caitlin Gable cruised along behind Spokane Mead HS's Laef Barnes, to run 4:16.07 mile as Barnes logged a fastest in the country 4:12.00 with a blistering sub 60 final 400. Sandy's Devin McDaniel also impressed with his 4:17.58.

Jesuit's distance corps got in some early season track action as John Maletis ran 4:26.09 in the mile and then returned to the track to run 1:59.71 in the 800 while teammate Michael Maag clocked 4:23.88 in the mile. Another Crusader, Ted Quinn ran 9:04.17 in the 3000

Zuber Ahmed returned to competition in the 800 running 2:03.30 but is now fully healthy after a year of much frustration and injury.
