CORVALLIS, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women’s cross country team placed second among the three-team field at the John Frank Memorial Invitational last Friday at Oregon State University. Redshirt Senior Natalie Hemphill came in fifth place and was joined in the top 10 by teammate sophomore Molly Mitchell, who finished tenth.
Portland finished with 57 points, which fell shy of the 16 points posted by Oregon. Host Oregon State finished third with 59 points.
“I was really impressed with how our team ran,” head coach Ian Solof said. “Natalie Hemphill looked great, Molly Mitchell is way ahead of last year, and Ruth Croft showed real toughness in her first cross country race since 2008.”
The winner of the individual competition was Zoe Buckman of Oregon who posted a time of 16:01, one second better than her teammate Sarah Penney in second place.
Portland will next host the Pier Park Invitational on Friday, Sept. 10.
