PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland men’s and women’s Track & Field Indoor season begins this Saturday with the University of Washington Indoor Preview in Seattle at the Dempsey Indoor Arena. Running events are set to begin at 8:00am followed by field events at 9:00am. Schools from across the Western United States are slated to participate including nationally ranked University of Oregon and Stanford University.
The Portland men are No. 109 in the USTFCCCA National Preseason computer ranking and boast two runners with qualifying times in their respective events. Freshman Trevor Dunbar posted an 8:01.87 in the 3000m, on 3/6/10, which is the 22nd best time in the country for that event. Sophomore Lars Erik Malde ran a 14:03.65 in the 5000m, on 2/12/10, which is 26th nationally.
The Pilot women are No. 68 in the USTFCCCA National Preseason computer ranking and are represented by two runners with qualifying times in their respective events. Senior Cori Moore posted a 2:05.41 in the 800m on 3/6/10, the 10th best time nationally. Fellow Senior Dana Morgan secured 30th place in the 5000m, finishing the event in 16:36.47 on 2/12/10.
This is the first of four trips to Seattle for the Pilots during the Indoor season. The Pilots are scheduled to host two events during the Indoor season, the Pilot Indoor on February 6 and the Halftime Mile on February 17. The Indoor season will wrap up on March 11-12 with the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas.
