PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland cross country program announced on Tuesday that it has received a national letter of intent (NLI) from Woody Kincaid, one of the top high school runners in the nation. Kincaid, of Columbine High School in Colorado, completed his high school career by winning the Colorado 5A cross country state championship race.
Kincaid will join forces with two other Colorado state champions in the University of Portland program for head coach Rob Conner. Freshman Scott Fauble was the Colorado cross country state champion in 2009 and freshman David Perry was the 3200m state champion in 2010.
Kincaid placed 4th at the Footlocker Midwest regional and 11th at the Footlocker nationals as a senior. His finish time at the Midwest regional was the 14th fastest in meet history.
“Woody might be the most improved runner in the nation this year,” said Conner. “He improved from 11th in Colorado as a junior to 11th in the nation as a senior. That is pretty phenomenal.”
Conner praised the efforts of recruiting coordinator Jesse Johnson in signing Kincaid.
“Our recruiting coordinator Jesse Johnson has now landed the top three Colorado recruits over the last two years. He has done a great job.”
