PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad --- University of Portland runner David Perry participated in the junior men’s division of the 2011 NACAC Cross Country Championships held in Trinidad on February 19. Perry, a freshman from Colorado, finished 10
th overall with his time of 19:06 for the 6k event.
Perry ran with the lead pack until the 5k mark when the Canadian trio of Ross Proudfoot, Paul Janiskowski, and Connor Darlington made a break. Proudfoot went on to win the individual title, completing the course in 18:27.
Perry and team USA took the silver medal, finishing with 37 team points. Team Canada took the gold with 12 team points.
On February 2, Perry finished 8th at the USA Junior National Cross Country Championships in San Diego which qualified him to run in the NACAC Championship race. He is also an alternate to compete at the World Junior Championships in Spain on March 20.
He redshirted the 2010 cross country season for the Pilots and head coach Rob Conner.
“David had a great experience and did a great job,” Conner said. “He is a rising star in our program and this experience will pay off down the line in the NCAA Championship meets.”
