Ashante Horsley & Paige Rice lead the way at Linfield

Paige Rice at 6A State race last fall

It is usually expecting a great deal for prep runners to do well, when they face collegiate athletes, but Ashante Horsley & Paige Rice not only fared well:  they defeated them.   Ashante especially had an excellent day, as she was victorious in the 100 Meter Dash with her time of 12.85 but she also claimed the 400 Meter title with a time of 58.70.    The runner from McMinnville High School is only a junior.

Paige Rice of St. Mary’s Academy ran unattached yesterday but she too was triumphant.  Paige won the 1500M with her 4:39.87 clocking, as she edged Oregon State’s Jennifer Macias, who was timed in 4:39.90.  Jennifer ror the record moved to #3 on the OSU all=time list.   Oregon State runners garnered five of the next six places but safely secured in fifth place was Brittany Arch of North West Christian, who ran 4:43.98.   Erin Bergmann, who is also from St. Mary’s Academy & ran unattached, placed 11th with her time of 4:53.50.

The aforementioned Brittany Arch had quite a day, because she backed up her 1500 effort with a third place finish in the 5K, when she ran 16:40.05.   Megan Hall, Brittany’s NW teammate, placed fourth in the event with her time of 18:35.43 in a field dominated by collegiate runners.   Megan also ran the 10K to complete one long workout and placed fifth with a time of 38:00.98.

Ariel Oliver, the defending Oregon 4A Discus champion from Yamhill, placed third in that event with a toss of 119-11.75.   It may have been well off her best from 2010 but it bodes well for the rest of the season.    She also earned third in the shot put with a heave of 34-7.50.

Annie Whitfield of Sweet Home, Oregon placed fourth in the javelin with her toss of 129-9.00.   That event was won by Ali Super, a two-time State 6A champion from West Linn,.  Super was unattached but is a student at Clackamas Community College.

A number of the guys gave good account of themselves on Saturday as well & Kane Kennedy of McMinnville led the way.   Kane placed third in the 400 Meters with a time of 51.99 and then followed that with a ninth place effort in the 100M with a time of 11.57.  Kennedy also competed in the 200M, where his time of 24.37 was good for 24th place.

Tim Anderson made his first foray in the steeplechase quite successful, when he placed 7th with a time of 10:31.12.  Anderson was yet another McMinnville prep competing.   Joey Hart of Tigard had a banner day with his second place finish in the Triple Jump of 44-03.50.   He also was 7th in the 100 M (11.40) & 16th in the Long Jump (19-09.50).
