The Spring 2011 issue of American Track & Field Magazine has announced its list of prep All-Americans for the 2010 campaign.    Larry Eder is the publisher, as he has been for many years &

the list was compiled by Andy Ferrara.      The Northwest had a number of athletes make the list on either the First or Second Team.

Selected as First Team All-Americans were Maddie Meyers, then a sophomore, for Northwest School in Seattle, whose 4:41.93 mile not only earned her a spot on the AA team but also a repeat invite to the Adidas Dream Mile in New York City.  Christine Kirkwood, a junior at the time, from Othello, Washington was also honored as All-American First Team for her Javelin mark of 162-10.  Gresham, Oregon’s Sam Crouser was unique among Northwest athletes, as he claimed two nominations:  First Team AA in the Javelin with 255-04 and second team in the shot with 66-04 and this in spite of missing most of the season due to a foot injury.

Jonathan (JJ) Julifs of Sheldon HS in Eugene, Oregon made second team in the pole vault with 17-00.75 & Greg Skipper of Oregon City threw the hammer 223-08 to also garner 2nd team honors.   Haley Crouser of Gresham was just a freshman, yet she earned second team status in the javelin with a toss of 162-06.

Preps from the state of Washington earning Second Team All-American status were Michael Berry of Rainier Beach (Seattle) with 46.81 in the 400, Jordan Arakawa of Olympia, whose heave in the hammer was 218-07 and Olivia Medles of Capital High School in Olympia, who went 175-10 in the hammer.

Idaho also had an athlete honored, as Kasen Covington of Capital was credited with Second Team AA honors in the Triple Jump.   The 3A State Champion went 52-04 in his event.  All in all it was a solid showing for Northwest athletes:  a few of whom will continue as high school athletes this spring.
