Northwest Athlete at Arcadia on Friday

The first day of action at the Arcadia Invitational in California found Northwest athletes doing quite well.  Jeff Bastian of Glacier Peak (Snohomish) won the Open 3200 Meters with a time of 9:20.92, while Wesley Gray of

Benson claimed the Long Jump.  His time, unfortunately, is unclear & would seem to be a misprint as he was credited with 30-10.5.  He had two other jumps recorded, which were 19’ & 18” & change respectively.   Josh Gordon of Liberty (Wa) placed third in the Long Jump with 22-07.15.

Ryan Crouser of Oregon was expected to compete in the weight events but unfortunately was not able to compete.  The event, which saw the most competitors from the northwest was the boys 3200 and finishing behind Bastian were Jaziel Rodriguez of Eisenhower (Yakima), who placed sixth with a 9:30.15 clocking.  Sean White of Glacier Peak placed 16th (9:35.55), while Auburn Riverside runners Jeff Miles (20 – 9:38.46), Nic Lawrence (28 – 9:57.23) & Keefe Hanson (30 – 10:02.45) also ran well.

Josh Gordon of Liberty also competed in the High Jump and he placed third in that event with 6-03.   Darien Washington of Portland Lutheran tied for ninth with 6-01.

John Paul Wolpert of Walla Walla ran 9:24.59 in the Rated 3200 Meters and placed twelfth.  German Silva of Eisenhower finished in 27th in that race with a 9:57.07 clocking.    For the girls’ 3200 Meters Rachel Atwood was the area ’s best with a 7th place finish in a time of 10:56.49.  Berenice Penazola of Eisenhower took 14th with 11:03.94 in the rated race.  Sarah Whybark of Glacier Peak ran 11:38.75 to garner 21st in the Open 3200.
