Lewis & Clark Invitational
WALNUT, Calif. --- Several school and personal records fell for the University of Portland Track & Field team at the 53
rd annual Mt. Sac Relays which ran from April 14-16. Natalie Hemphill set the UP record in the 3000m steeplechase in 10:44.81 and Alfred Kipchumba set the No. 3 all-time UP record in the 10k in 28:38.34.
The records continued to fall as Kellie Houser finished the 10k in 35:02.63, good for the No. 5 all-time UP record and Lars Erik Malde set his PR in the 10k in 29:50.96.
Continuing his strong season, Jared Bassett captured first place in the 5000m in 14:10.95. Also competing in the 5000m was Chase Caulkins who took sixth place in 14:17.02
The Pilots also participated in the 2011 Lewis & Clark Invitational in SW Portland on Saturday. Highlights of the day included Theresa Hailey’s 2:16.75 first place finish in the 800m and UP Basketball player turned Track runner Korey Thieleke finishing third in the 100m (11.12) and fourth in the 200m (22.38).
Next up for the Pilots are the Oregon Relays on April 22-23 at Hayward Field in Eugene. Events start at 3:00pm on Friday and 10:00am on Saturday.
