EUGENE, Ore. --- The University of Portland track team traveled to Eugene on Friday, May 6 for the 2011 Oregon Twilight meet hosted by the University of Oregon. In the closest race of the evening, the men’s 1500m, junior Jared Bassett was narrowly edged out by UO freshman Boru Guyota. Bassett finished second, claiming a new PR, in 3:47.88 while Guyota finished in 3:47.47.
On the women’s side freshman Devon Brown finished the 800m in 2:18.03, senior Cori Moore and junior Elizabeth Keaveny finished the 1500m in 4:28.63 and 4:39.58, respectively, and sophomore Kiyah Williams finished the 400m hurdles in 1:03.47.
Four Pilots, in addition to Bassett, competed in the men’s 1500m as sophomore Trey Parry and junior Alfred Kipchumba finished in 3:50.26 and 3:52.89, respectively. David Williams and Brendan Ralph ran in ‘Section 2’ of the race. Sophomore runner Lars Erik Malde added a fifth place finish in the 3000m in 8:17.32.
Next up for the Pilots is the West Coast Invitational on May 14th in Salem. The NCAA preliminary round event begins on May 26 in Eugene.
