Leonardi to be an Oregon Duck!

Leonardi accepts scholarship to the University of Oregon

 

The state's top high school distance runner has chosen where she will continue her running career for the next four years, Abbey Leonardi has accepted a running scholarship to compete for the Oregon Ducks. Leonardi fresh off a runner-up finish at the Footlocker Northeast regional will finish out her high school xc career in two weeks at the Footlocker National Championship in San Diego, CA. It will be the 3rd trip in a row to the national meet for the 4 time Class A state cross-country champion. She placed 16th last fall.

Leonardi has had many accomplishments during the last 4 years & her legacy continues to grow with each race she runs. She is the only female runner in state history to win 4 state xc titles. She also won the New England XC title in her freshman year, she opted not to run the last three years. Abbey has set numerous course records in xc, and currently holds outdoor state records at 1600m, Mile, 3000m, 3200m, & 2 miles. She hasn't run indoor track in high school.

Abbey will join a historic program in the University of Oregon which has some of the best training facilities in the country. The girls program has established itself as on of the top in the country year in and year out. At the recent NCAA XC Championships, Oregon finished 5th overall, they will return 5 of their top 7 including standout Jordan Hasay.
