NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recognized 450 athletes that earned All-Region awards for cross country in Division I following this weekend’s NCAA Regional Championships. Portland had four men’s cross country runners and one women’s cross country runner receive, which were announced on Monday.
Alfred Kipchumba, Trevor Dunbar, Joash Osoro, and Lars Erik Malde all received honors on the men’s side. Kipchumba and Dunbar finished two and three respectively at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, leading the No. 8 Pilots to a second place finish. With the result, the Pilots earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
On the women’s side, Merel van Steenbergen represented the Pilots. van Steenbergen posted the fastest time for Portland at the NCAA Regionals, finishing 24th overall.
Indiana State will host the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Monday, November 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
The men’s race will begin at approximately 12:08 p.m. ET, followed by the women’s race at approximately 12:58 p.m. A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from noon to 1:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com. In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air on Saturday, December 18, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. ET on CBS HD.
