Linfield Icebreaker Prep Results

The Linfield Icebreaker may have been essentially a collegiate meet but it was open to high school runners and a number of preps took advantage of the meet, which was blessed by great sunny weather.

Leading the way in distance events were Jackson Baker of Franklin and Nick Obletz of Oregon Episcopal, who ran fine times in distance races for this early in the season.   Nick was the top prep in the 10K in a field of collegians but he placed eleventh overall in a time of 32:36.18.   Baker placed second in the 5K, as he cruised to a 15:16.79 clocking.   Southridge runner Ryan Jones earned fifth in that race with a time of 15:36, while Jackson Packham of Franklin followed with 16:37.

Lauren Morgan of South Medford won the steeple chase with a 3K time of 11:41.60.   Sandy thrower McKenzie Warren had both a successful and busy day, as she won the Discus with 130-05 and then placed third in the Hammer with 135-11.    The other female event winner was Claire Thomas of Molalla, who won the 400 Meter Hurdles with a mark of 65.85.  Claire also placed fourth in the 110H with 16.59.  Emily Bever of Molalla took advantage of the balmy day, which saw temperatures rise into the mid-fifties, when she finished second in the 800 meter Run in 2:23.42.   She also ran 5:06 in the 1500 Meters.   Ariel Olive, listed as being from McMinnville but a Yamhill-Carlton athlete if memory serves, placed second in the discus with a toss of 122-11.  Sandy athlete Bethany Drake secured ninth place in the Javelin with 106-04.

David lark of West Salem ran a fine early season time of 1:55.23 to earn second in the 800 meters, while Gabe Collins of Colton followed him in 2:02.  Collins also placed 19th in the 1500 Meters with 4:19.90.   Franklin’s Fletcher Hazlehurst showed that he is in strong form already by running 4:10 in the 1500M, placing sixth, and then coming in tenth in the 5K with a solid 15:49.97.   Pake Benthin of Molalla ran 2:09.85 in the 800M & then 4:28 in the 1500M, while Sandy’s James Fraiser clocked 2:11 in the 800.

Sean McGetrick of Tigard was the only male runner to triumph against collegians with his time of 15.80 in the 110 Hurdles leading the way.   Dylan Reck went 40-09.25 in the Triple Jump placing seventh and Dean Logan of Grants Pass came in sixteenth in the 100 Meter Dash with 11.87.  Molalla’s Bryce Leedham scored twelfth in the 100M with 11.73 and thirteenth in the 200 Meters with 23.40.   Brady Nelson of Molalla ran in both the 200M & the 400M running 25.22 and 56.17.    Also running in the 1500M were Luis Rojas (4:47), Austin Hartrampf (4:47) and Conner Fischer (4:59), who were all from Molalla.

When I looked through the list originally it was not noticed, that a number of athletes were listed under their team nickname of the Cardinals, so the group from Lincoln High School in Portland was inadvertently overlooked.   With apologies the Lincoln athletes are added now including Claire DeVoe, who belongs at the top of that list due to her 4:46 time in the 1500 Meter run, which saw her finish seventh overall.  Samara Michaelson was also in the race & came home in 5:06.   Tess Michaelson added a second place finish in the 00 meter Run with her 59.34 clocking.   Molly Potter ran 2:31.58 to finish 13th in the 800 Meters and Evan Martin crossed the line after 800 Meters in the boys’ race in 2:05.   Ben Campbell ran 4:22 in the 1500M, while Julia Eckelman placed 14th in the Javelin with 88-09.
