The Portland Catholic Preview Meet was held on Thursday but neither Central Catholic nor St. Mary’s Academy raced. With the powerful Ram team missing that left the Crusaders of Jesuit unchallenged & the guys seized nine of the first ten places. Sam Remington led the way with a time of 12:40 and his team mate Hunter McGuirk was but two seconds behind. Brian McDavitt of the Crusaders was third and Valley Catholic’s Cooper Roach broke up the Jesuit legion with his fourth place effort of 12:54. Josh Sealand came in fifth with 12:55, which was two seconds in front of Matt Piercy, who rounded out the Crusader scoring.
Sophomore Ellie Kallgren topped the girls’ race, as she led seven Jesuit runners across the finish line before any other team had a runner come home. Kallgren’s time was 15:05 for the Fernhill course. Dylan Hite placed second in 15:07 & Megan Mullaney earned third with 15:22. Taylor Moscow, Zani Moore, Lindsay Sheaffer & Colleen Sullivan completed the Jesuit sweep. Maricela JAroch of Valley Catholic stopped the Crusader blitz with her eighth place clocking of 16:11 in her first race as a freshman. Kelsey Cathcart & Morgan Tholl of LaSalle placed ninth & tenth respectively and Molly Hagler of Jesuit garnered eleventh. Central Catholic was represented by its female squad & Maggie Riley, who finished 14th with a time of 16:38, led the Rams.
Tonight fans should see some fine competition at the Twilight Meet at Wilsonville High. Central Catholic has a dominant performance last year from its freshmen boys & we look forward to seeing how they fare as the season gets into full swing.
