While distance running and high school coaching might be considered a more local affair, we look to the distance running community because great coaches and avid distance runners often have networks of colleagues and friends who might have interest. A little more about the Chiles program: Teams The girls are the defending state champions with 6 of the top 8 runners returning. The boys were runners-up last fall after winning the title the year before (and recently winning their third straight track title). 5 of the top 8 boys return. Venues Tallahassee is home to some great running venues. Apalachee Regional Park (ARP) is specifically designed for cross country and has hosted events such as the NCAA South Regional, the FHSAA State Championships, and the FSU Invitational. In 2016, ARP will host the USATF national club cross country championship. Tallahassee also features many trails for off-road running, leading Pete Rea of ZAP Fitness to once write, “Tallahassee is a city with the best training venues of any American city I have seen, and an ever-growing culture of appreciation for long distance running.” Local Support The Chiles XC/TF boosters support the school running program. Tallahassee also has a very active local running community led by Gulf Winds Track Club, which hosts many road races, track meets and other events throughout the year.
