Event Procedures Open Mile & 5k

Mile Coed Sections based on entry seed
16-24 runners per heat; double waterfall start, one-turn stagger, everybody on front line
Athletes may enter using speculative marks
A 2/3rd main waterfall, 1/3rd outer alley waterfall ratio of runners will be used
Fastest seeds placed in outer alley waterfall; athletes arranged from outside of track in
5000m Coed Sections based on entry seed
24-48 runners per heat; double waterfall start, one-turn stagger
A 2/3rd main waterfall, 1/3rd outer alley waterfall ratio of runners will be used
Fastest seeds placed in outer alley waterfall; athletes arranged from outside of track in
Athletes will be entered using current season 5k or 3M best time
Athletes with no current mark will still be guaranteed entry, and may be considered for seeding using a mark from a prior season or speculative mark. Heat placement of those without a current mark is at the discretion of meet management.

For the Great Northwest Chase Race, a total of 24 boys and 24 girls will be invited to participate. There
will be 12 runners from each gender from both Oregon and Washington competing together, and
against each other, in one exciting race. The girls will start first, and prior to the girls completing the
first lap, the boys will start. There will be a competition between the boys and girls, and a competition
between Oregon and Washington.

Event Procedures Invitational Great Northwest Chase Race 2M

Coed Chase Race
24 girls & 24 boys will be invited: 12 of each gender from each state (OR & WA)
Using state meet times, the top 12 declared times from each gender, from each state, will be entered into the Great Northwest Chase Race
A double-waterfall start, one turn stagger will be used
16 athletes on the back starting line, 8 athletes on the front starting line
Girls will start first, with the boys to start prior to the girls completing the first lap
Exact starting spread will be determined based on a statistical analysis of the declared entries for that years event, primarily based on state meet times
While each athlete will be given an official gun time, the common finish line order of finish will be used to determine team scores
Girls vs. Boys The top 20 girls and the top 20 boys will be scored to determine the winner in the battle of the sexes
Oregon vs. Washington The top 10 Oregonians and the top 10 Washingtonians, regardless of gender, will be scored to determine the winner in the battle of the states
All participants will receive the following items to keep:
A complimentary long-sleeve dri-fit event shirt
A state/gender team jersey
Winning team in battle of the sexes will receive Nike backpacks
Winning team in battle of the states will receive Nike quarter-zips

For the Invitational 5k, a total of 36 runners of each gender from Oregon and Washington will be
invited to participate. Up to an additional 7 runners from Idaho and Alaska will also be invited to
compete in the Invite section.

Event Procedures Invitational 5k

Invite 5k 36-50 runners; double waterfall start
One race per gender
18 runners from WA, 18 runners from OR in each race
Up to an additional 7 runners from each ID and AK may also participate
Vacant slots left by ID/AK runners will not be filled by other states
Using state meet times, the top declared entries from each state based on times run at their respective state meets will be entered into the Invitational 5k. From OR/WA, athletes must have finished in the top 50 of their respective classification; from ID/AK athletes must have finished in the top 20 of their respective classification.
Starting line
Double waterfall, one-turn stagger
A 2/3rd main waterfall, 1/3rd outer alley waterfall ratio of runners will be used
Seeding will be based on state rank within the field
Using times run at the state meet, the entries from each state will be on a descending order list
The state with the fastest overall entrant will earn the odd number seeds (#1/3/5/etc.) and the other state will earn the even number seeds (#2/4/6/etc.)
Hip #1-12 will be in the outer alley, and #13-36 will be on the main waterfall
ID/AK entrants will receive hip #37->50 in the same pattern as OR/WA
The lowest 1/3rd of ID/AK hip numbers will be placed in the outer alley, with the remaining 2/3rd placed in the main alley waterfall
All participants will receive a complimentary long-sleeve dri-fit event shirt
Winner of each Invite 5k will receive a Nike backpack
