Tyson Gay runs wind-aided 9.68; 6 men under 10 seconds in 100 final

Tyson Gay ran the fastest ever 100, wind-aided or otherwise, in winning the U.S. Olympic Trials final in Eugene, Oregon on the third day of competition, today, Sunday, June 29.

Full results can be found on the USATF website. Armorytrack.com will post a full story about Day Three on Monday.

The wind reading was 4.2, but even so, no human has run faster. The men's 100 capped an impressive afternoon in which Erison Hurtault, Columbia University graduate (above left),  hung onto Jeremy Wariner in the second heat of the men's 400 to advance to the next round. Erison was second in 46.25 to Wariner's effortless 46.04 winning time.

The favorites advanced to the next round in the women's 400 metres, including Sanya Richards and Natasha Hastings. Shana Cox, representing the University of Pennsylvania (above right) and Brandi Cross running for South Carolina advanced also.

Another capacity crowd of over 20,000 basked in temperatures in the upper 80s. Larry Rawson is recapping the day's events for Comcast Sports right now on TV. Great to be able to see the meet and then watch it again on TV afterward.

At dinner at Old Taylor's, a local haunt on the University of Oregon campus, University of Oregon track and field alumni spotted Leonel Manzano who was watching the NBC recap on the outdoor television there.

The quarterfinal in the men's 1500 is scheduled for Thursday, July 3 at 8:25 p.m.
