The men's 10L saw Portland-based Mo Ferah, who trains under Alberto Salazar stun a world-class field by racing away down the stretch to win in a time of 26:46.57. The mark is the best in the world this year. Placing second in the race was Imane Merga (26:46.57) while Josephat Kipkoech earned third with 26:48.99. The quality of the deep field was evidenced by the fact that nine runners dipped under 27 minutes. Noteworthy also was the race of Geoffrey Kipson, who is only 18 years-old & ran a Junior Record of 27:06.35. Hopes of a high-caliber American effort were ended early, when Galen Rupp, probably a casualty of the high pollen count, did not start, while Chris Solinsky dropped out after 3K.
Vivivian Cheruiyot won the women's 5K wityh a brisk time of 14:34 and Sshalene Flanagan placed sixth with 14:49.68. Kara Goucher finished in 9th with a time of 15:11.47. Sadly this solid racing willl not be a part of the national television coverage on the main day but thanks to computers distance fans were able to see some impressive times.
