NCRunners.com Cross Country Coaches Poll-9/25/07 Ben Hovis Sep 25, 2007

Photo: Hendersonville's boys are ranked #6 in 1A.

The top teams stayed the same but of course there was a lot of moving around beyond that.

Is every team where they belong? No way. It's just a coaches poll.

Are most of the top teams mentioned? Yes. Check out the "receiving votes" as well because there could be some top 10 teams sitting just on the outside.

NC Singlets: Early Bird Sale Coming to an End Ben Hovis Sep 23, 2007

September 30th ends the Early Bird Sale for the NC singlets.

We are one of the few state in the SE Region who has never represented with a team singlet at the Foot Locker South meet. So this year that's going to change!

The singlets are $18 prior to October 1st and $22 up until Foot Locker.

NCRunners.com Team Standings - 9/17/07 Ben Hovis Sep 17, 2007

As all of us know, comparing times is just about impossible in cross country. Courses vary in difficulty, length, surface, etc. The easiest way to know who the best teams in the state are is to watch them race eachother. Over the past couple weeks we have all been treated to some great meets with some of North Carolina's most talented teams competing against one another. I'd say it has opened some people's eyes as to who is who.

With all that said, I'm now going to introduce you all to the NCRunners.com Team Rankings. These team rankings are strictly based off the athletes who have met the NCRunners.com standards and have been entered in the large database. This is why I have increased the NCRunners.com standards to 18:00 for boys and 21:30 for girls. These standards are no longer called "elite". The Milesplit.US Network has elite standards which are universal to the entire network. Check out the NCRunners.com rankings if your aren't sure what I mean.

Freedom, 5 stage, & WCU Previews Ben Hovis Sep 13, 2007

The 5 Stage 8-mile Relay has attracted a great field this year. On both sides, it looks like the most competitive field in the meet's history. This meet is called "the most fun you'll have all season" and it truly is unique for North Carolina. Five athletes comprise a team, and each individual races 2500m or 1.55 miles.

The Freedom Invitational is known for producing some pretty fast times. This year should be no exception. There are many ranked teams who will be attendance. Looking at the team list, this could give the first clue as to which 4A schools will be coming out of the West Region.

Western Carolina University is hosting a meet this weekend for high schools. Right now, there are 13 teams planning to attend, but Coach Williamson is expecting a few more before Saturday.

Update: Previews now available

NCRunners.com Cross Country Coaches Poll-9/11/07 Ben Hovis Sep 11, 2007

This week's Coaches Poll sees some big changes in all of the classifications. The Adidas Seahawk Invitational really shook things up this past weekend, especially among the 4A schools.

The next poll in two weeks will have a new twist. Coaches will also be voting on a North Carolina top 15. So coaches, pay attention to all classes!

Next weekend, a brand new feature to Milesplit.US & NCRunners.com should help shed some light on the top teams in the state. It is an overall team ranking based on athletes who have met the NCRunners.com standard.

Speaking of the standard . . . tonight I went back through all the results up to now and and added in many new performances. The new NCRunners.com standards are 18:00 and 21:30. I'm trying to include more athletes and you will see how it pays off in the team scoring next week.

\"\"Photo: TC Roberson's girls have been dominant over the last 10 years in the 3A girl's competition.

Here it is! I'm jumping the gun , as it's not supposed to come out until tomorrow. However, coaches, Jesse Autry, Derek Fenton, Brian McMahon, and Robert Youtz did their job and finished early.

All but 2 of last year's state champs have found themselves ranked at the top. Beyond there, you will find quite a mix up from last year's state championships. Check it out and don't be afraid to comment. I personally think the coaches that voted did a nice job, so thanks to all that voted.

Down Under Videos Ben Hovis Jul 24, 2007

A number of videos from our trip to Australia. Races hopefully will be posted in the next couple weeks. I didn't take that footage, so I'm waiting on it.

Sales, Hill, James, & Walker Perform in Puerto Rico Ben Hovis Jul 02, 2007

This year, four North Carolina athletes travelled to the meet as part of the National Scholastic Sports Federation (NSSF) team: Antonio Sales of East Chapel Hill, Ryan Hill of Hickory, and Latoya James & Sherice Walker both of Burlington Cummings. All four performed very well for the NSSF team. Here's how they did.

Wanted: Every single XC meet run in North Carolina! Ben Hovis Jun 27, 2007

\"\"Photo: Hoggard XC team at the 2006 Jungle Run

NCRunners.com is now headed towards it's ONE YEAR anniversary, August 16th. Athletes, coaches, and parents from all over the state have helped the site become a huge success. BUT, there are still many meets that don't make into the Milesplit database. You have the opportunity to change that.

My goal for this year is to include every single meet that is run in NC. Will it happen? A lot of it is up to you. Last XC season, there were 155 meets that made it to the calendar and most of them also were accompanied by results. During track, 360 meets made the calendar.

What can you do?

Kamorean Hayes Looks for yet another National title Ben Hovis Jun 14, 2007

\"\"

Kamorean Hayes is one of the most decorated HS athletes in state history. She has won multiple National Titles both indoors & outdoors, represented the US at the International Level, and been named an All-American by USA Today.

She enters this weekends' Nike Outdoor Nationals with the top mark in the US. She threw the shot 51-03.50 at the 4A state meet in May at North Carolina A&T. The same place where she be throwing on Friday. Kamorean actually has 7 of the top 13 shot put throws in the US this outdoor season. She will also be participating in the discus, where she is highly ranked as well. In 2005, Kamorean placed 3rd in the girl's discus throw at the Outdoor Championships.

More State Meets On the Horizon Ben Hovis May 17, 2007

Starting tomorrow, the final track meets of the season for North Carolina high schools will take place.

The 1A and 3A NCHSAA competitions are done and state champions have been crowned. Now it is time for others to take the spotlight.

NCRunners.com \"Team\" Coaches Poll #5 Ben Hovis May 07, 2007

\"\"

With the 1A and 3A regionals done, there were some changes to the polls. Some new faces appeared for the 1st time all season and there were some changes near the top.

**Remember as you look at the polls - depth at a conference meet doesn't mean depth at a state meet. "Elite" performers are key at states!
